Rather, in Jesse’s words, we should “just be,” with God’s spirit of love inside us. Jesse asked what it means to know yourself. Knowing thyself is a state of nonjudgmental attention without the question of why. God said to consider the birds; he takes care of them. Stop role-playing. Stop pretending to be pure and holy.

Jesse told her that she can only develop courage by doing the things she should do. Another woman could not bring herself to show love toward a difficult coworker, who was the bigger person and offered to talk things through.

She will not pray consistently. One young man was raped by his stepfather as a young boy, and his mother became cruel toward him. Jesse said she cannot help herself. The young man asked how to forgive her. He had an affair with his father’s wife, but his father forgave him.
